0Albert Almora was crying on security guard’s shoulder after foul ball hits child
Albert Almora was emotional after a foul ball he hit during Wednesday’s game struck a young child.
Almora was batting in the top of the fourth inning of the Chicago Cubs’ game against the Houston Astros and pulled a ball foul that apparently struck a child. Almora was shaken immediately after seeing what happened.

Almora was talked to by Jason Heyward, who was on deck, and manager Joe Maddon, so he could finish his at-bat. He ended up striking out.
Almora did return to center field after the half inning. He spoke to a security guard in the area where the child was for an update. He was emotional and crying on the guard’s shoulder.

12 News’ Paul Bergen says the young child was taken to an ambulance. The security guard was apparently telling the crowd the child appeared to be OK.
Between innings, Almora appeared to come ask security guards if the baby was ok. He was visibly shaken, crying. The security guard is telling the crowd the baby appeared to be ok and was being taken to an ambulance

Almora and his wife recently welcomed their second son into the world. The experience of parenthood likely factored into his emotional reaction.
