Alarming Google Chrome bug lets hackers hijack your computer – how to avoid it
GOOGLE has discovered a serious security flaw in its Chrome browser and is warning users to update their software.
The bug affects Windows, macOS and Linux devices but not iOS or Android phones.

The security bug is so concerning because it could allow cyber-criminals to hack into your device remotely.
If successful, they could use the flaw to do things like bypass security systems, steal important data and install malware.
According to Forbes, governments and businesses are most at risk because cyber-criminals are more likely to target them to gather sensitive data.
However, home users are still at risk and should make sure they have automatic updates turned on in their Google Chrome Settings.

To trigger an update on a PC Chrome browser you must first click on the three horizontal dots in the upper right hand corner of your screen.
Then find the Settings menu and click "About Google Chrome".
This should trigger Google Chrome to look for updates and if one is found then you can apply it.
Any Chrome versions that came before version 76.0.3809.132 are said to be at risk.
Tips to protect yourself
Here's what you need to do...
- So far there are no reports of the vulnerability being exploited but it is important to protect yourself just in case
- It's recommended that you keep your automatic browser updates turned on
- Don't use an account with admin privileges for everyday browsing
- Always be wary of website links sent to you in emails even if they look like they have been sent from a trusted source
