AES technology could extract “lost” hydrogen in natural gas pipelines

Advanced Electrolyser Systems has demonstrated substantial progress in its research into hydrogen recovery from natural gas pipelines.

Through landmark testing of the patented AES technology, it has been identified that there is an ability to store excess renewable electricity as hydrogen in natural gas pipelines.

Despite this, PowerTap states that there is no cost-effective solution to recover this hydrogen for commercial usage.

Through extensive testing with the AES system, is has shown that it Is capable of efficiently extracting hydrogen stored in natural gas pipelines making it more commercially viable.

This helps to solve the issues associated with grid instability in addition to also creating a major new potential source of clean energy, through hydrogen capture and storage.





Through the AES technology, the hydrogen stored in the pipeline will be about 10% hydrogen content by volume without any significant modifications to existing infrastructure.

The key value proposition offered by the AES technology is its ability to extract hydrogen at the point of use, thus eliminating the hydrogen transportation costs and associated safety issues.
