Organizations require handling documentation for managing the data across all platforms. The sharing, coordinating and collaborating have become vital business activities. The Word and Portable Document Format are two different computer applications which are commonly used by the computer users. These two file formats make the task of the computer user easy, flexible and smooth. The Word file format was created by Microsoft Systems and released in 1983. The Portable Document Format was introduced by Adobe Systems in 1993. The Word file format is an editable computer application and PDF document format is a non-editable computer application.

Both the documents have their unique features with which you can handle vast amount of data to share information with physically distant people. In the Word file format, you can use this application for editing the document. A person can customize contents in the document format. This enables you to add images, graphics and pictures. A person can select any font types, font sizes and font colors in the documents. A user can also incorporate tables, columns, charts and much more in the document. A person can even personalize the document completely by incorporating watermarks in the files. This is done to make the documents secure and prevent them from being misused. The conversion ability of the Word file format enables a user to convert the document from one format to another. For instance, you can convert Word to PDF file format or Excel with ease and convenience.

Portable Document Format is another widely used computer application for the purpose of storing, archiving and sharing voluminous data cross platforms. As the name suggests, this document format is one of the most portable format. This means that it is a platform independent device. A person can have access to the application on any system with different configuration. The compression algorithms can compress the size of the graphics or images in the PDF document format. This makes the file size smaller and compatible across multiple platforms. A person can even use a set of security features in the file format for security purposes. You can encrypt the PDF files with passwords, digital signatures or certificates.
