Palm trees bend & sway as high winds battered the area of San Jose, CA. This was during a crazy wind event here in the Bay Area... The winds were strongest during the late morning & early afternoon hours this day. It also looked like a mini tropical storm outside during our church service. I really wanted to go out but too bad I was busy doing the media. Right after church, I quickly went out & observed the tail end of this windstorm in the afternoon hours… (Footage filmed Sunday, February 9, 2020)

*Weather scenario of this wind event:
Strong, gusty winds wreaked havoc on the Bay Area, downing trees & power lines, causing outages & prompting closures across the region. The winds were due to a setup wherein a high pressure area was to our west & a low pressure system was to our east, southeast. Wind advisories were issued all over the Bay Area thru the evening. The region saw northerly winds of 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. At the height of the windstorm, PG&E officials said nearly 80,000 customers were without power in the region: SF-210, Peninsula-4,936, North Bay-4,655, East Bay-48,896, and the South Bay-21,005…

But rainfall totals for this rainy season are well-below the average. And as the midpoint of the month approaches, forecasters just don’t see conditions changing. “Once we get out of February, the likelihood for rainfall trends downward,” Gass said. “It’s going to hurt our overall rainfall totals. Rain deficits continue to increase as far as where we should be this time of year. “There have been times where we point to a ‘miracle March’ where we could see some significant rainfall, but there’s no guarantees…”
