Fresh out of the oven from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Tech Summit, HMD Global has announced that it’s working on using Snapdragon 5G-ready processors for its mid-range phones very soon. The first phone to be launched will make use of the newly announced Snapdragon 765 SoC that has an integrated Snapdragon X52 5G modem.

Nokia’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, took the to stage at the Snapdragon Tech Summit to give a glimpse of the upcoming 5G phone that they’ve been working on. The teaser posted showed on stage shows a phone with curved edges at the back, a slight drift from the blocky designs we’ve seen on Nokia phones. The iron-coloured phone has a circular camera module similar to the one we’ve seen on the Nokia 7.2 and the Nokia 6.2. Another feature that the poster revealed was the side-mounted fingerprint scanner that is embedded within the lock button.

Like some previous mid-range Nokia phones, this upcoming mid-range 5G Nokia phone will also feature Zeiss camera technology. It’ll also employ the PureDisplay technology that offers HDR10 video playback and upscaled SDR content to HDR content with the help of a 16-bit engine.

“Our highest priority for 2020 is making 5G more accessible – bringing an affordable yet premium grade, future proof 5G experience for the best possible performance in NSA and SA networks with the Snapdragon 765 Mobile Platform,” said Juho Sarvikas, chief product officer, HMD Global.

While it’s not confirmed, the above quote might mean that the upcoming will have dual-mode 5G, i.e., it will support both SA (standalone) and NSA (non-standalone) networks.

As far as the launch timeline of the phone goes, Nokia hasn’t officially confirmed anything. It might be only next year when we’ll get to see the 5G-riddled portfolio that Nokia has been talking about. But, there is a possibility that we might see Nokia talk about, or maybe even unveil the phone at a launch event it's hosting in Cairo on December 5.
