The best golfers in the world will have a bit of a changeup this week in format at the 2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. As the name of the tournament indicates, match play will be used for the first three rounds which take place Wednesday through Friday, before a single-elimination bracket will be used on Saturday and Sunday. The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play 2022 field consists of 16 groups of four golfers, with the winners of each group advancing to the knockout portion over the weekend. Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas, hosts the event, which features 64 of the top 70 ranked golfers in the world.

The latest 2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play odds from Caesars Sportsbook list Dustin Johnson as the +175 favorite (risk $100 to win $175) to win Group 8. That group also consists of Max Homa at +225, Mackenzie Hughes at +333 and Matthew Wolff at +350. Johnson is a former match play champion as he won this tournament in 2017 and had another top-five finish the year prior. Before locking in your 2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play picks, be sure to see the best bets and predictions from SportsLine's Mike McClure

McClure built SportsLine's proprietary golf model, which has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed last June. In fact, the model is up almost $10,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

At the 2021 Open Championship, McClure's best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. He was also all over Daniel Berger (+220) and Emiliano Grillo (+700) finishing inside the top-20. McClure's best bets netted over $2,200 at the 2021 Open Championship.

In addition, McClure's model was all over Jon Rahm's (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 U.S. Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner. And at the 2021 Masters, McClure nailed Rahm's (+250) top-five finish in his best bets, as well as Corey Conners' (+550) top-10 showing.

This same model has also nailed a whopping seven majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now, McClure has evaluated the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play odds 2022 from Caesars and locked in his best bets. Head to SportsLine now to see the top picks and predictions for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play 2022

2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play predictions

McClure's 2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play best bets include backing Rahm to win Group 1 at +125 odds, and that group also features Patrick Reed, Cameron Young and Sebastian Munoz. Since first becoming the No. 1 player in the world in mid-2020, Rahm has more PGA Tour wins than the other three in his group combined. He's finished in the top 25 in six of his seven events this year, including three top-10 finishes. Rahm also brings previous success at Austin Country Club as he finished second at this tournament in 2018 and then placed fifth in 2019.

Rahm has the unique combination of being powerful with his driver, but also having touch with his irons and in the short game. He ranks eighth in driving distance (315.8 yards) and leads the PGA Tour in greens in regulation percentage (75.74 percent), and both of those were keys to his ascent in 2021. His metrics in those two categories are even better this tour season and they've enabled the Spaniard to rank sixth in strokes gained: total (1.582).

None of the rest of Group 1 ranks better than No. 28 in the world, and that's Reed, who isn't playing his best as of late. He's missed the cut in three of his last four events and hasn't finished in the top 25 in his last six tournaments. Meanwhile, Young is No. 45 in the world and has really struggled with his short game, ranking outside the top 100 in strokes gained on both approach shots and around the green. At No. 66, Munoz is the worst-ranked golfer in the group and he shared a group with Rahm at this event last year, losing their head-to-head matchup as Munoz lost all three of his match play rounds.
