Craig Franden has been selected to take on the role of director of the Department of Information Technology (DoIT) for the city of Reno, Nev.

His first day in the new position was September 19, 2022.

“For nearly 25 years, he’s been instrumental in developing and implementing technology in all areas of our local justice system,” said City Manager Doug Thornley in the announcement. “Now he will bring that wealth of experience and expertise to local government.”

Franden has more than 20 years of experience with the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County, starting in June 1998. Most recently, he served as the chief technology officer. In his time with the Second Judicial District Court, he helped with both developing and implementing technology to support the local justice system.

“Managing a city’s information infrastructure is no small task, and I’m honored to take on this important responsibility,” Franden said in the announcement.

Franden’s predecessor, Kannaiah Vadlakunta, served in the role between May 2021 and July 2022, according to his LinkedIn page. The city did not immediately respond to request for comment on Vadlakunta’s departure.
