With cybersecurity an increasingly important consideration among businesses, Provident Bank said Sept. 22 it is bringing on Damiano Tulipani as senior vice president and chief information security officer.

The Iselin-based bank said Tulipani will oversee and manage information and cybersecurity policies, procedures and practices of the company. He will also advise the bank’s executives and staff on the proper administration of information security standards and help develop plans within business units to manage risks effectively.

“I am delighted to welcome Damiano to our team,” said James Christy, Provident’s executive vice president and chief risk officer. “He brings with him an impressive breadth and depth of experience helping to provide exceptional protection to organizations from cyberattacks and data breaches to ensure continuity of services across multiple business lines.”

Tulipani boasts more than 15 years experience in information and cybersecurity in positions of increasing responsibility. Before joining Provident, he was vice president and head of cybersecurity with Investors Bank, where he led cybersecurity management operations, covering cybersecurity protection along with response and recovery, while developing programs to embed security into business processes by aligning information security and governance with company goals.

He holds a degree in business administration and management information systems from St. Peter’s College, a master of science in information systems and information security from Stevens Institute of Technology, and a graduate certificate in business process management and service innovation from Stevens. According to Provident, Tulipani is active in the community and mentors high school and college students across the country in cybersecurity. He also supports the development of young people in poor and underserved communities, receiving the New Leaders for New Jersey award in 2019.

In August, Provident said it hired Ravi Vakacherla as executive vice president and chief digital and innovation officer. Earlier in the year, the bank unveiled a multiyear partnership with Audacy and the Yankees Radio Network on WFAN 101.9 FM/66 AM (WFAN-FM/AM) in New York, its first broadcast radio sponsorship. As part of the agreement, the institution was designated as the exclusive sponsor of the Yankees Broadcast Booth.
