This Saturday, the Madrid community has enabled a QR code in the lobbies of all Madrid Metro stations so that users can download a map of the entire underground network in digital format for free. As stated in a statement by the regional government, this figure is of over 232,600 passengers who have already activated the scheme on their mobile phones. The paper version is kept with a shorter print run to reduce environmental impact.

Those interested to download it will have to visit the counter of Commercial Supervisors, where they will get two types of codes to download the map. Thus, with the first one you download directly, while with the second you get the official application, which, in addition to maps, provides access to the rest of the utilities that the application offers.

With this digital initiative, Metro de Madrid adjusts the print run to the new reality in which the use of mobile device solutions is increasingly common, while contributing to a lower environmental impact by reducing paper consumption.

The current design is inspired by aircraft from the early 1980s, coinciding with the process of redesigning the company’s identity.
