FM Interacts With US NSF Chief, Discusses Cooperation In Science And Technology

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday met US National Science Foundation (NSF) director Sethuraman Panchanathan and discussed promoting ties in areas such as artificial intelligence, space, agriculture and health. The two sides discussed areas of cooperation related to science and technology (S&T), which emerged during the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the Quad summit in Tokyo in May, the finance ministry tweeted. Said in a series of “Both sides emphasized the need to further enhance and strengthen the time-tested, democratic and value-based mutual partnership in specific domains such as artificial intelligence, data science, quantum computing, space, agriculture and health,” it said. Panchanathan indicated that several projects would soon be taken up under the six Technology Innovation Centers in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology. “Talking about the mission and objectives of @NSF, @DrPanch elaborated on achieving innovation at speed and scale with inclusion in research and a solution-based approach,” the ministry tweeted. “Union Finance Minister Smt. @nsitharaman spoke about India’s achievement in promoting innovation through #AtalInnovationMission, #Start-upIndia, #StandUpIndia, improvement in patent processes and advancement of appropriate technology in agriculture.
