BSidesSF: Mike Dahn Discusses Everything Security BSides

iSpeech.org

Michael Dahn is one of the founders of Security BSides, a series of security community events born out of the rejections to the Call For Papers for Black Hat USA 2009. A number of quality speakers were rejected, not due to lack of quality but lack of space and time.

Each BSides is a community-driven framework for building events for and by information security community members.

The goal is to expand the spectrum of conversation beyond the traditional confines of space and time. It creates opportunities for individuals to both present and participate in an intimate atmosphere that encourages collaboration.

Mike is an information security strategist responsible for the management of consultants, project engagements, and P&L. With over 11 years of information security experience, Mike has managed hundreds of information security projects and provided cost saving, security solutions to many Fortune 500 companies.

Mike is responsible for creating and managing consultants and corporate service lines. He has a technical background in the management, design, systems integration and implementation of information security technologies for financial institutions, commercial and international clients.

Most recently, he was the subject matter expert in creating PCI DSS training for Visa USA, Europe, Asia-Pacific, LAC and trained over 10,000 assessors, merchants, and vendors. He has also served as the lead security consultant and project manger for the development and internal roll-out of the Discover Information Security Compliance (DISC) program for Discover Network. He also contributes regularly to the continued development of the PCI and payment application guidelines.

Previously, he consulted with a financial services firm, managing security audits and chairman of the special projects technology committee. In this dual role, he was responsible for service line development and improvement as well as project manager for security audits, penetration tests, and forensic investigations.

During his tenure Mike has given numerous speaking engagements for a variety of financial and banking associations, including state and federal banking and credit union bodies, and information security groups on topics including compliance, information security programs, auditing and network security, and computer hackers. He has been published in several news articles and TV spots on information security.
